Last week I read about the four job “archetypes” for the years ahead — https://99d.substack.com/p/there-will-only-be-four-jobs — and kept wondering… Won’t it be just two? “AI facilitators” and “AI builders”?
The question I was left with was about the three roles I’ve spent the most time in: “duck” PM (the Brazilian way of saying jack of all trades), product leadership, and teacher. In the last two, I see myself as a facilitator most of the time… and a bit of a builder. As for the second one, I see it less as defining the “whats” and more as doing the “hows”. Here I drew a bit on Design Thinking and on the Product Builder career (one of the few I see growing well).
Facilitating is basically the role of leadership and of “agilists”. Building is more for those who are hands-on and know the context even better. The folks who are always building “spreadsheets” and running systems. The first group is great at storytelling, connecting the dots and unblocking teams. The second is made of people who like to build things — analysts, devs, designers, etc.
As the post says, it’s less about job titles and more about skills. As a builder, I’ve been quite impressed with how much Claude already does for me lately, and I’m more in the role of an editor — correcting and validating.
I think that if I were still in people leadership — I still have technical leadership roles — I’d be trying hard to help other people get unblocked using AI.
I don’t know, just thinking out loud here.
